About Us

What is Montessori?

The Montessori teaching method was founded by the first female doctor in Italy over 100 years ago. After many years of research, Dr. Maria Montessori found that children require a very specific environment in which to learn, absorb and develop to their full potential. Thus, the Montessori method was born. Montessori education teachers require specific training in order to observe and understand the curriculum objectives, and needs of each individual child.

A Montessori environment is safe, loving and extremely respectful. All activities have educational elements, while focusing on real-life skills and experiences. Children are stimulated through many different angles, making the environment constantly fun and exciting for staff and children alike.

The key characteristics of a Montessori prepared environment include:

  • Staff with childcare and/or teaching qualifications, as well as Montessori qualifications, or are studying towards these. Our staff are skilled in understanding the developmental needs of the children they care for, and are experts in tailoring lessons that are fun, exciting and always educational.
  • Calm environment, where teachers speak calmly and respectfully at all times. When inside, the children are constructive in play and educational learning, with small group sizes to facilitate individual guidance and support. When the children are outside, it’s go time!
  • Structured environment, with a consistent routine involving sleeping, eating and play patterns. We offer children great balance from the Nursery, right through to Early Learning. All of our teacher’s pre-plan their day’s lessons and curriculum in order to ensure they expose their children to all aspects of life.
  • Real-life lessons, to help children understand the meaning of responsibilities. These lessons include personal hygiene, table setting, food preparation, cooking lessons, washing and gardening!
  • Behaviour, including how to properly deal with conflict, and how we should behave when we’re inside or outside. For example, our teachers will explain and demonstrate the correct language to use if a conflict ever occurs.

Our Philosophy

We’re passionate about providing children with a strong foundation for life through diverse, holistic learning opportunities delivered with professionalism and care.

We aim to provide an inclusive environment that promotes a sense of belonging to each child, their family members, our staff and the members of the wider community.

We aspire to be one large, happy family.

We value the individuality of all people involved with our centre and respect, welcome and encourage their involvement, feedback and support.

We aim to provide you with a nurturing environment that is innovative, safe and extremely clean so you and your child enjoy walking through our doors comfortable and eager to explore.

Our classrooms are all individual and extremely organised whilst offering a stimulating and educational environment that awakens your child’s inner curiosity.

Our staff go to extraordinary lengths to offer the children love, respect, dignity and humility at all times.

Your children are offered achievable challenges, hands-on experiences and a varied curriculum which incorporates aspects of sustainability, culture and our environment.

Your child will be exposed to a wide range of experiences like music & movement, art & craft, cooking lessons, technology and community involvement, so they may become aware that the world is diverse and much larger than they first imagined.

We aim to have as much fun as possible with your children so that we may all laugh together and learn through playing together; children need the opportunity to be children.

We educate children through their senses and embrace the Montessori method & philosophy which promotes balance and a deeper absorption of information.

We aim to recognise every window of opportunity as a special time to offer your child a specific lesson and not rush them so that the lesson is lost, this will build their independence; thus preparing them for life!

We aim to work in partnerships with our families as well as to guide, support, inspire, motivate and educate parents to a new level of understanding of their child and to make one of the most difficult jobs, one of the most rewarding.

…in London, I discovered the Montessori method whilst managing an AMI accredited Montessori school for 7 years.

Since joining Precious Cargo in 2015, I have been involved in the delivery of the educational program, supporting and mentoring our Educational Leaders, Montessori Mentors and educators, and running Montessori inductions and workshops.

Montessori is based on individualised education. Hence, children at Precious Cargo are not preparing for Primary School, they are preparing for life. Montessori is education for life.
