A word from Precious Cargo Founder and Director and mother of four, Cheryl Shigrov
Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a deep love of children and have wanted to be a teacher, just like my Dad.
It wasn’t until I was 28 years old, with two sons of my own, that the door of opportunity opened. My 3 year old son had just started attending a private Montessori pre-school and he absolutely adored going there. I felt I had to know what this ‘Montessori’ was all about because what ever it was, it was working!
So, off I went and began studying and attending some Montessori workshops whilst volunteering at every possible opportunity at this pre-school. I didn’t realise that as I worked with the children, the staff were surreptitiously observing me, and it wasn’t long before I was offered a position. I worked as a Playgroup Coordinator and Teacher’s Assistant and then became a full time teacher and Assistant Director. Meanwhile, I had completed my Diploma of Education (Montessori) and it was time for me to move on from that delightful pre-school.
My love of children and my devotion to their early development never waned. This passion eventually led me to a wonderful milestone… the opening of Precious Cargo.
We now have 8 in Adelaide, 1 in Melbourne and a couple more on the way, all of which proudly educate and care for children in the Montessori method. I am thrilled to say that each and every one of my staff members genuinely love to nurture and witness wondrous growth in children, their families and the community. We are trained Montessori professionals, passionate about all facets of childrens’ personal, emotional, social and academic development.
I am still excited every day by the realisation of my dream to create this Precious Cargo family. Our parents, our children and our outstanding staff form a community where the focus is always on the best possible care and development of each, individual child.
Thank you for your interest in Precious Cargo. We love what we do. And we think you and your family will love it too.
