From the Director
Here we are our first Newsletter for 2019. I would like to welcome all our new and existing families to Precious Cargo Blackwood as we are fast approaching February already. It’s amazing how quick the time is going.
Graduations have been a great success the children have enjoyed moving through to their new classrooms. They have been developing relationships with the educators in the rooms and becoming familiar in their new environment.
As of week Beginning 28 January 2019, the children will be in their new classrooms. Please drop your child in their new classroom.

Next week your child’s Team Leader will have new ‘Now I am’ forms for you to complete. This is so the educators have current information about your child, it enables the educators to better cater for your child’s needs.
Recently we had Inventors day at the centre. The children from Nursery to ELC came in small groups and collected items from the Music room. The children took several items back to their rooms and made many different creations.
Reminders for 2019:
Please send appropriate changes of clothes with your child. Especially in the warmer months, the rooms participate in many experiences that may involve a change of clothes or two.
Please remember to label your child’s belongings. If you do end up losing an item, please check the lost and found boxes outside your child’s classroom in the foyer. At the end of the week, items are placed in the reception on the clothes rack.
Please remember to pack your child a wide brimmed hat and that children have sun safe clothing on. Please ensure that your child’s tops or dresses have sleeves not just straps, if they come in straps we will put a t-shirt over the top when playing outdoors as per Cancer Council advise.
We are currently looking for some donations of handbags and purses. This is to assist in practical life experiences with opening and closing. Rooms are also looking for bangles.
Within our classrooms, we use glassware for the children for drinking. Educators offer the children regular drinks assisting them using the cold-water urns in the rooms. Children are free to help themselves throughout the day inside and outside to access water. In Nursery, we use sippy cups.
If we could ensure families refrain from bringing drink bottles to the centre, as it does become unhygienic, as sometimes children drink from other children’s drink bottles.
If your child needs any medication (Teething Gel, Antibiotics or own sunscreen) please remember we need a letter from the doctor and the medication and or sunscreen needs a pharmacy label.
Can we please ensure children are not bringing in belongings from home. (Soft toys, Cars and cartoon figurines just to name a few) This is causing the child to be disrupted in the classroom and also can affect other children. Items are also getting lost which causes a child to be distressed. Thank you for your support with this.
In the event the weather is deemed Catastrophic in the Mount Lofty ranges, the centre will not be open. We check the rating by 4pm the day prior. In the event that it is deemed catastrophic we will notify all families immediately.
As some of you might be aware, we have a small restructure of staffing across all classrooms. Below is a list of educators that work regularly within each classroom
Nursery: Amber- Team Leader, Shashi, Juliet, Katie, Felicity
Waddlers: Valerie – Team Leader, Kamal, Angel, Uyen, Ana
Pre-Kindy: Alia- Team Leader, Liz F, Eranga, Natalie
Kindy: Julie- Team Leader, Liz D, Jenny, Sunny
ELC: Rikki – Teacher, Diana, Azam and Christina
We have permanent educators that will be floating within all classrooms to support lunch cover, programming and beginning and end of day.
To ensure your ongoing CCS payments please ensure your child is signed in/out at every attendance.
Statement of Entitlement
Regulations also now require us to provide a Statement of Entitlements (your account) to parents/guardians of children eligible for CCS or ACCS enrolled in our services once every fortnight which includes details of the sessions of care provided and the resulting fee reduction amounts.
As a result this will mean that from the next charging (24/1/19) we will be providing you with an account that covers a 4 week period – the current week, the previous week and the next 2 weeks.
Notice of intention to Leave
Long Day Care – When families no longer require a place in the child care classes, the centre must be notified in writing. Please note we require a minimum of 4 weeks written notice. The account will be settled using the funds from the bond payment. If there is any outstanding balance then the family must finalise that immediately.
If the family has a credit this amount will be refunded to them once their account has been reconciled.
IMPORTANT NOTICE – Once you have provided your 4 week notice period the Child Care Subsidy is only applicable up to your last day of attendance. If your last day of attendance is prior to the end of your 4 week notice period you will be responsible for the payment of the full fee of each day from the last day of attendance until the completion of the 4 week notice period.
ELC – Families are required to give a minimum of 4 weeks written notice prior to the end of each block if your child(ren) are not continuing in the next block. Upon receiving 4 weeks’ notice your bond will be used to supplement your child’s last 4 weeks of the 12 week block.
In the event that 4 weeks written notice is not provided, you will forfeit 1 week of your bond for each week under the required 4 weeks’ notice period, for example if you give 2 weeks’ notice you will lose 2 weeks of your bond.
Our Centre relies on the timely payment of fees to enable us to meet our obligations to pay operating costs, most of which have fixed and regular dates for payment. We ask that sufficient funds are held in your nominated account to meet your fortnightly payment.
Accounts are emailed to you on the Tuesday prior to the Thursday charge and we ask that you review your account and contact the Admin Centre by the Wednesday (4pm at the latest) should you have any queries as we are not able to reverse payments after that time Reminder of Change in payment provider.
As previously advised, our software provider is changing the company that processes our payments. Your statements will from 21/1/19 show Debitsuccess (this changes from Ezidebit).
